The City of Canterbury Bankstown Inter-Faith Reference Group was established in February 2013 by a group of leaders from different faith traditions in the City. It aims to build respect for other traditions and customs, and build community harmony.
The work of the members includes contributing to the community, building opportunities for conversations between different faiths, raising awareness of common aspects across faiths and working on joint projects that involve people of a range of faiths.
The members of the Inter-Faith Reference Group operate from a conviction that all religions are about connecting people, and giving as well as receiving. This in turn builds mutual understanding and trust between diverse communities.
The Reference Group meets quarterly at Council or local places of worship. It has conducted many inter-faith community gatherings and Award winning inter-faith presentations since its inception between members of the Catholic, Muslim, Presbyterian, Buddhist, Hindu, Bahai’s, Sikh and Anglican congregations as well as the Aboriginal Elders.
