The City of Canterbury Bankstown has developed the Playgrounds and Play Spaces Strategic Plan to guide the future provision, development and management of playgrounds and play spaces over the next 10 years. Equity of distribution is an overarching theme.

The Active Transport Action Plan identifies the priority infrastructure projects that will provide a high quality, connected walking and cycling network that enables residents to move about the City and connect with the bicycle network of neighbouring LGAs.

The purpose of the Open Space Strategy is to provide a framework for protecting, enhancing and managing open space now and into the future. It identifies objectives and strategies which will deliver accessible, equitable, diverse, quality, sustainable, and efficient provision of open space to meet the current and future needs of the community.
Bankstown Open Space Strategic Plan
The Belmore Sport and Recreation Precinct Masterplan has been developed to prepare a long term plan for the design of the precinct. This report reviews the existing conditions of the site and proposes a new design for the parklands that focusses on providing a diversity of uses and spaces for the diverse community of Belmore. Public access and shared use of spaces is an important value to the masterplan, to allow the parklands to be used by the community while also allowing for its ongoing use by sports teams and clubs.

The Canterbury Open Space Strategy will assist the City of Canterbury Bankstown to make informed decisions regarding open space in the former City of Canterbury area. The Strategy relates to all types of open space and provides strategic and specific directions.

In 2008 the former Canterbury City Council commissioned the Strategic Recreation Plan (SRP) for the City which followed on from the 10 year Strategic Plan 2008-2017 completed for the City in 2001. The SRP was officially adopted by Council in May 2011. The SRP was developed by a team of four consultants across a range of specific professional fields. The Plan provided the strategic framework and Action Plan for the management and provision of existing and future recreation services and facilities across the City to address the current and future needs of the community.

Our Strategic Recreation Plan provides a Plan for the future direction for recreation services and facilities in the former Canterbury Local Government Area (LGA). The purpose of this Plan is to provide the strategic framework for the provision of quality and appropriate recreation services and facilities to address the current and future needs of the Canterbury City community. Preparation of this updated Recreation Plan was identified in Council’s Strategic Plan 2008-2017.

The Open Space Needs Review provides a guide for Council regarding land acquisition and divestment. The study considers what the needs of the community are likely to be now and in the future (to 2031) and whether the existing open space has the ability to meet these needs. The study has identified gaps in provision and the need for land acquisition to compensate for these gaps.

Canterbury-Bankstown is set to become a lot more creative following the development and approval of its first Creative City Strategic Plan. The Plan is an important first step to a holistic and strategic approach in establishing creative spaces and programs.

Over the coming 20 years, the number of jobs, students and residents in Bankstown CBD is expected to double, putting more demand on our parks, streets and cultural facilities – including Paul Keating Park.
Council has prepared a master plan to create a vision for Paul Keating Park and guide its development as Bankstown’s premier shared public space over the next 20 years.
The master plan is a high-level document that will inform future public domain capital works. It aims to improve on what’s currently working, and incorporates community insights to create a welcoming, diverse and inclusive space for all.

The Off-Leash Dog Park Action Plan was adopted in March 2021 and will guide the provision and ongoing management of dog off-leash areas and supporting infrastructure in the City. The vision is to provide quality, accessible off-leash dog parks which balance the needs of all open space users through provision, design and operation of dedicated facilities.

A master plan has been developed for Parry Park which identifies the future uses of the park. The plan suggests a number of park improvements and will guide works programs and the development of detailed designs. The master plan was exhibited to the community in December 2017 to February 2018, with community feedback considered in the final plan.

The masterplan seeks to provide a long term vision for the integrated open space that can guide its ongoing enhancementand rehabilitation, and ultimately its expanded community use and enjoyment by the community. This report provides a summary of the study process and outcomes and details the recommendations for ongoing development and improvement of the open space.
Salt Pan Creek Reserve Concept Masterplan
The Sports Facilities Strategic Plan provides a framework to guide the provision, maintenance and upgrade of the city’s grass roots sports facilities. The Plan provides opportunities for Council to work with all levels of Government, sporting associations and local clubs to create new facilities and redevelop existing sporting infrastructure.
