The City of Canterbury Bankstown is offering a rebate of up to $500 to residents for installing solar photovoltaic (solar PV) on residential properties in Canterbury-Bankstown. This initiative is part of Council’s target to increase rooftop solar on single unit dwellings to 50% by 2036. Almost 18,000 solar PV systems have already been installed in our City.

Eligibility criteria

  • The applicant property must be located within the Canterbury-Bankstown Local Government Area
  • The applicant property must not have an existing solar PV system installed.
  • The applicant must either be the owner or landlord of the property and the applicant can only apply for a rebate for one property
  • The installation of the solar PV system must be carried out by a licensed tradesperson and meet all necessary installation standards, please refer to the eligibility criteria within the program guidelines for reference
  • Must be installed by a Clean Energy Council accredited supplier
  • The solar PV system installed must be new and must not have been previously used 
  • Properties under a strata scheme are not eligible

Application process 

Check the eligibility criteria

Review the eligibility criteria for your current solar PV quote or before seeking a solar PV quote. All eligibility criteria and approval criteria must be met in order to be pre-approved for a Solar Rebate.  

Complete Stage 1 application for Solar Rebate 

Fill out the Stage 1 application form. If the eligibility criteria has been met, you will receive a confirmation email. You will have 3 months to provide evidence of the purchase and installation of your system before being paid the rebate amount in full.

Complete Stage 2 application for Solar Rebate 

If your Stage 1 application form has been approved, Council will confirm this with you via email. Once the solar PV system has been purchased and installed on the property in the given time period, you will need to complete a final form (Stage 2 application form) that also provide evidence of the installation. Council will provide the Stage 2 application form for you to complete.

This form must include photos (JPEG or PNG file format), invoices, and a nominated bank account for payment upon the application approval.

Receive your Solar Rebate 

If the Stage 2 application form is approved, you will receive the rebate amount in full via electronic bank transfer. Be sure to check your junk mailbox for your rebate approval email.
