We’re all in this together.
The Prime Minister has announced tough new measures to deal with the spread of Coronavirus. This will affect many people in our city.
All council fields will be closed to organised group and sports activities. This will include, weddings and prayer gatherings.
In line with health advice, we will now close all our libraries, the Art Centre and the Bryan Brown Theatre. Council sporting facilities such as the Morris Iemma indoor sports centre, Bankstown Basketball Stadium and the Velodrome will also shut down.
From today we are centralising customer service to Bankstown and encouraging all residents to call us before coming in.
In light of the Prime Minister’s announcement today, we’re implementing stricter conditions for use of our Bankstown, Campsie, Chester Hill and Riverwood libraries, with no more than 50 people allowed in at a time.

Council has now reviewed the advice from the Government regarding the need to cancel all non-essential static gatherings of more than 500 people.
At this stage, the following Council run events to be cancelled in the coming weeks are;
For events scheduled for June, July and August, Council will continue to monitor the situation before making a decision.
We are also putting measures in place at our community facilities to ensure that numbers do not exceed 500, and that practices of hygiene and social distancing can be enacted.
We are aware of the statement made by the Prime Minister today, informing the community as of Monday 16 March 2020, non-essential gatherings of more than 500 people are not to take place.
More information will be provided by the government next week.
We are in the process of reviewing our events, and will provide regular updates and information as changes are made.
We are monitoring the situation and following advice provided by both NSW and Federal Government Health Agencies. At this stage the Government has advised that 'people should continue with their usual activities and that there's no reason to stop going to community activities'.
Based on this, Council is still operating business-as-usual and proceeding with our upcoming events.
While the situation is evolving, the health and safety of our community will always be paramount. Council is continuing to monitor the situation and we will seek direction from the Government. Should their directions change, we will review services and events.
