Investing in Canterbury-Bankstown’s roads and footpaths, upgrading local playgrounds and building a new BMX track are just some of the exciting new projects planned for the next 12 months.

The initiatives are all part of Council’s draft Operation Plan 2023/24, of which $57.2 million is proposed to be spent on a detailed capital works program.

The plan, which is on public exhibition until 21 June, continues to deliver the services and facilities the community expects with a continued focus on waste collection, street cleaning and park and road maintenance.

Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said as a newly elected Mayor, he will work hard with his fellow Councillors to plan for not only today, but for future generations.

“I will ensure that those living here, maintain a high quality of life, as we continue to grow and prosper,” Mayor El-Hayek said.

“That’s why Council’s long-term plans are so important.

“They must aspire to the needs of current and future homeowners, residents and businesses without compromising the high standards of governance, financial stewardship and leadership necessary for an organisation of this size, scope and reputation”.

Council’s draft $57.2 million capital works program, consists of $8 million on upgrades to community buildings and leisure and aquatic facilities; $11 million on road, car park, bridge and traffic upgrades; $7.7 million our parks, playgrounds and sporting facilities; $2 million water quality improvements; and $4 million on town centres.

Some projects being proposed, include:

• More tree planting and a Towards Net Zero Emissions Plan;
• Engagement and planning for new Campsie Cultural Hub, Panania Library and Knowledge Centre and the Roberts Park Community Hub;
• Designs for new community facilities at Griffith Park and Thurina Park;
• Playground upgrades at Bennett Park, Croydon Park, Deverall Park, Ewen Park, Roma Reserve, and The Crest;
• City-wide road rehabilitation program; and
• A new BMX track; and
• Sporting facility upgrades at The Crest, Bass Hill, and Croydon Park.
